Reviving the Yoga Philosophy

The ancient/true Yoga philosophy …

Yoga philosophy, SanskritTo this day, the true origin of Yoga (historically referred to as “Yogam”) remains a topic of much discussion. Most believe that the practice of Yoga is about 5000 years old, with some first recordings of the Yoga philosophy dating back as early as 3000BC.

In Sanskrit the term “Yoga” is defined as „union“, bringing together, a connection and communion. This generally refers to the union and harmonization of  body, mind and spirit.

Millennia later, it seems more important than ever to re-instate the importance of reviving the true Yoga philosophy and its original meaning. Yoga – despite of a wide-spread misconception – is a practical aid, not a religion.
It represents a life-long practice supporting you on a journey of self-discovery. It should never be considered a destination. The continued practice of yoga certainly leads to a sense of peace and well-being. In the practice of Yoga the ultimate aim is one of self-development and self-realization!

“Yoga is essentially a practice for your soul, working through the medium of your body.” ~ Tara Fraser

“In this fast-paced, constantly moving world, practicing yoga allows me time to stop and just be aware of where I am and how I feel. It is a time to be one with my body, and let go of all the distractions and worries of the outside world.” ~ Jonathan Urla

Reviving the Yoga philosophy in this day and age …

Yoga philosophy - Reviving Yoga Push-upThe physical awakening of the body is the first step for many of us on our Yoga journey. Through the bodily practice of yoga postures, our consciousness merges with the movement of our breath. Simultaneously our body merges with the motion and stillness of the postures.

These fusions create a physical, mental and emotional balance leading to openness, strength and well-being. They ultimately bring body mind and spirit into ever-greater harmony. With this in mind, I strive towards reviving the true yoga philosophy, which has become a real passion.

As an added benefit, the physical practice of yoga leads to a strong and flexible physique. Furthermore, it improves the function of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems.

The practice of meditation in yoga on the other hand increases our awareness of ourselves and of the ways in which we relate to the rest of creation. It ultimately brings emotional stability and clarity of mind.

“Healthy plants and trees yield abundant flowers and fruits. Similarly, from a healthy person, smiles and happiness shine forth like the rays of the sun.” ~ B.K. S Iyengar
